Stephen Pusey Writes: It used to be that America was the country where individuals could reinvent themselves; now it is the needs of the consumer that are reinvented and with each incarnation these wants become ever more compelling. In this scenario there is no concern for the past or the future, only the ever-present moment of our desire for the object. How can such a people, so removed from themselves, regard the joy, tragedy, or suffering of the hustle and bustle of life as anything more than just a spectacle?

G.H. rsponds:

Actually Stephen I'm reinventing myself on the web. The physical world, the "art world" of object makers and spurious, fashionable intellectual moments has never been comfortable with me and who I am.
However, in cyberspace there's no occlusion. I can be who I am, say what I feel and present it to other people without the built in prejudices of an entrenched hierarchy. This may be of your point of Oprah and mass media
but I feel that people get they media they deserve. In other words if one make the effort to raise their consciousness above an animal/ desire/ gratification level, there is the potential for a higher ground of awareness and
communication. OK I'll get down off my soapbox now
